🚓 HEROES OF ASBURY PARK 🚒

In a heroic rescue captured on body-worn camera footage, an 8-year-old boy was safely caught after being coaxed to jump from the second floor of a burning home in Asbury Park. The fire, which broke out at 8:44 a.m. Monday morning at a residence on the 500 block of Prospect Avenue, had engulfed the first floor, blocking the boy's exit. Police officers, hearing the child scream for help, urged him to squeeze through the partially open window. Officers Dewitt Bacon and John Walsh, along with resident Joseph Dunbar, positioned themselves below and successfully caught the boy as he jumped. The boy and his mother, as well as a neighboring family, were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation but did not sustain serious injuries. The house was destroyed and the fire remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Fire Marshals. Asbury Park Police Director John Hayes commended the police officers, the resident, and the child for their bravery. See the dramatic video here.
