🏥 Hackensack Meridian Gets $125 Million Donation

Hackensack Meridian Health received a historic $125 million anonymous donation—marking the largest single philanthropic gift in the network’s history and the largest of its kind ever awarded to a New Jersey healthcare system. In a remarkably selfless gesture, the benefactor declined all personal naming rights and requested instead that the gift honor the legacy of the late John K. Lloyd, the longtime hospital leader and former HMH co-CEO who spent more than 40 years transforming Jersey Shore University Medical Center into a premier regional academic medical hub. The transformational funding will directly accelerate major expansion efforts at the Neptune campus, supporting a comprehensive 10-year master plan that includes a brand-new critical care tower, 24 state-of-the-art operating suites, and expanded patient facilities designed to keep world-class, specialized medicine right in Monmouth County’s backyard.

🇮🇹 Belmar Feast of San Gennaro

Downtown Belmar transforms into a vibrant celebration of Italian heritage this Saturday, September 19, as the annual Belmar San Gennaro Festival takes over Main Street and Pyanoe Plaza. Commencing with the traditional celebratory Mass at the Church of Saint Rose and a ceremonial statue procession, the block party fills downtown with the irresistible aromas of sausage and peppers, wood-fired pizza, zeppoles, and cannolis served up by local eateries and visiting food trucks. Visitors can stroll among dozens of artisan crafters and specialty vendors, enjoy live musical performances spanning Italian classics and Jersey Shore favorites, and cheer on competitors in fan-favorite traditions like the cannoli-eating contest. Free and open to all from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the festival offers a festive, family-friendly atmosphere that ushers in the coastal autumn season with warmth, tradition, and incredible food.

🎭 THEATER, CINEMA & COMEDY

🎥 Downtown Red Bank Filming

Downtown Red Bank caught a dose of Hollywood glamour this week as a Netflix production set up shop along the Broadwalk pedestrian plaza, temporarily transforming a long-dormant local landmark into a bustling movie set. Crews took over the century-old, terracotta-faced Doremus building at 21–23 Broad Street—which had sat vacant for roughly 14 years—and converted its ground floor into a fictional studio dubbed “New Roc Yoga” for an upcoming action-comedy spy project starring Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill. Hot on the heels of the production filming scenes at Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck earlier in the month, the shoot brought cameras, crew trucks, and curious onlookers to West Front and Broad streets, giving Monmouth County another high-profile turn in the spotlight as New Jersey’s film and television boom continues to roll.
