📰 New Long Branch Pier Contract Awarded

Long Branch is set to reclaim a piece of its storied coastal heritage following the City Council's decision on February 4, 2026, to award the construction contract for the new Long Branch Pier to JT Cleary. This landmark project aims to restore the city’s historic legacy, which dates back to its 19th-century heyday as a premier resort for presidents and industrialists, by replacing the iconic structure lost to fire in 1987. Extending 550 feet from the boardwalk near Laird Street Beach, the 20-foot-wide pier will serve as the state’s first fully accessible fishing and pedestrian destination, featuring a dramatic octagonal seating area, a decorative archway, and specialized amenities for anglers and visitors alike. Mayor Pallone emphasized that while the design pays homage to the original aesthetic, it prioritizes modern resiliency and inclusion, offering year-round recreational access without the clutter of amusements or transit docks. Funded largely by the New Jersey Boardwalk Construction Act, mobilization is scheduled to begin within 60 days, kicking off a twelve-to-eighteen-month timeline that promises to transform the waterfront into a statewide model for accessibility and public enjoyment.
