Families across Monmouth County have plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy affordable entertainment this spring thanks to the growing lineup of free and low-cost events offered by the Monmouth County Park System. Recent programs include historic demonstrations at Historic Walnford and Historic Longstreet Farm, guided nature walks, concerts, open houses at Deep Cut Gardens, and educational wildlife activities designed for all ages. Memorial Day weekend alone features free milling demonstrations, live historical music, and a Decoration Day celebration, while additional activities throughout the season include canoe rentals, birding events, and family-friendly arts programming. County officials say the events are aimed at encouraging residents to explore Monmouth County’s parks, history, and natural resources while providing accessible recreation for local families.

Downtown Manasquan is welcoming another upscale dining addition with the recent opening of Coastal Canteen at 142 Main Street in the former Max Devros location. The new restaurant, created by the Jersey Shore Restaurant Group, brings a coastal-inspired concept featuring fresh seafood, handmade pastas, craft cocktails, and influences from Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Jersey Shore cuisine. Led by Chef Andre Barbero, the restaurant has already generated excitement locally for its polished shore atmosphere, locally sourced ingredients, and chef-driven menu. Coastal Canteen also reflects the continued evolution of Manasquan’s downtown dining scene, joining a growing collection of popular restaurants that continue to draw visitors and food enthusiasts to the borough year-round.

One of the Jersey Shore’s most anticipated annual traditions returns this weekend as the 48th running of the Spring Lake Five Mile Run takes place Saturday morning in Spring Lake. The iconic Memorial Day weekend race attracts more than 12,000 runners and thousands of spectators each year, transforming the seaside community into one of the largest running events in the country. The weekend festivities begin Friday evening with kids races and packet pickup before Saturday’s main event kicks off along Ocean Avenue. Since its founding in 1977, the race has become known not only for its scenic course and festive shore atmosphere, but also for its charitable impact, with millions of dollars raised for local organizations, volunteer groups, and community projects throughout Monmouth County.
