Roadside Diner | Hoping to open by Father’s Day | Wall

Diners are not dead! Jerseybites.com wrote last month that more than 30 New Jersey diners were demolished or relocated in the past decade. And it seems like a common dinner table conversation that our days of diner glory are bygone. But we’re bright side people and we want to highlight the heroes that are refusing to let one of New Jersey’s cultural hallmarks go quietly into the night.

Nicolas Kallas, savior and new owner of the Roadside Diner in Wall, is hard at work to reopen this iconic spot by Father’s Day (6/15). It closed at the end of March after 27 years under chef and owner Dimitri Garakaris, who retired.

The Roadside Diner graced the cover of Bon Jovi’s 1994 greatest hits album “Crossroads” and appeared in Bruce Springsteen’s 2007 music video for “Girls in their summer clothes.” It’s a Jersey Shore landmark and thanks to Kallas, it will have new life breathed into it. We can’t wait. For a sneak peak at what you might expect from the new Roadside menu, check out Kallas’ Broad Street Diner in Keyport.
