The Monmouth County SPCA is quietly making a major impact on the region’s stray and feral cat population through its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, one of the most extensive in New Jersey. In partnership with dozens of local municipalities—including towns like Asbury Park, Belmar, Red Bank, and Middletown Township—the program has helped thousands of community cats by humanely trapping them, providing spay/neuter services and vaccinations, and returning them to their outdoor colonies. Over the past several years, this coordinated effort has resulted in thousands of cats being treated, significantly reducing uncontrolled breeding and improving overall animal health across the county.
Beyond the numbers, the program represents a broader shift toward sustainable, humane animal welfare solutions. TNR not only helps stabilize and gradually reduce feral cat populations, but also decreases common issues like fighting, spraying, and overcrowding in local shelters. By working closely with municipalities and focusing on long-term population management, the Monmouth County SPCA is easing pressure on shelters while creating healthier environments for both animals and residents. It’s a strong example of how local collaboration can deliver meaningful, lasting results in communities across Monmouth County.

Founded by acclaimed Jersey Shore chef Marilyn Schlossbach and developer Bret Morgan, the restaurant is rooted in a vision of community, craftsmanship, and seasonality. According to its official website, Marée will feature seasonal American fare, craft cocktails, and a curated wine program, all designed to create a welcoming, neighborhood gathering place. Adding to its uniqueness, the restaurant will be housed in a former bank building, blending historic character with a fresh coastal aesthetic—a nod to its mission of honoring the past while shaping what’s next for Spring Lake.
