📰 OCEAN GROVE PIER SECTION TO REMAIN CLOSED

The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association recently announced that the ocean extension portion of its 500 foot pier will remain closed “for the foreseeable future.” The association’s engineering consultant, McLaren Engineering Group, determined the extension may not be structurally sound.

The original pier was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and wasn’t rebuilt until 2023. Just eight months after its reopening, the pier sustained wave damage to three of its 88 new pilings.

There is a bright side though. The first 243 feet of the pier remain open for the public to enjoy!

🎨 ART, HISTORY, EDUCATION

🖌️ Bordallo II Installation

World famous Portuguese street artist Bordallo II, recently completed a large 3D mural of a mother and baby fox made entirely from recycled trash in Asbury Park. It’s located on the boardwalk at the southern end of the Third Avenue Pavilion, overlooking the Splash Park. Assembled between October 6 and 10, the sculpture was commissioned by the Asbury Park Arts Council and the Wooden Walls Public Art Project and utilizes reclaimed materials such as car bumpers and bicycle tires, donated by the local community. The fox was chosen as the subject to honor the family of foxes that settled near the boardwalk after the Ocean Grove pavilion fire in 2019, giving the piece a strong connection to local history and symbolism while drawing attention to waste and environmental themes.
