🚁 REPORT: DUTCH HELICOPTER LANDS IN NEPTUNE

Residents and visitors of the Jersey Shore are pretty used to seeing all manner of military aircraft overhead on a regular basis. From Joint Base MDL, Naval Weapons Station Earl, the Sea Girt Army National Guard Base, et al. we routinely see helicopters, jets, and even the occasional aircraft from the presidential HMX-1 squadron traveling to and fro. But yesterday, anyone in or around the Asbury Park/Neptune area may have caught a glimpse of an unfamiliar skyship; we’re told an NH90 of the Royal Netherlands Navy landed in the parking lot behind Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication, but we received unconfirmed reports that the Royal Netherlands Navy helicopter (pictured above) conducted a medical evacuation of a sailor from one of their vessels operating off the U.S. coast. According to those reports, the sailor was safely delivered and treated for a non-life-threatening condition. It’s a common daily occurrence to see helicopters delivering critical patients to JSUMC, an ACS designated level II trauma center. But this particular aircraft, for reasons unknown at this time, could not land on the hospital’s rooftop helipad.

We certainly hope the ill sailor makes a quick and full recovery and can return to her shipmates soon.

Personally, we’ve had a couple pretty terrible experiences with some of the bigger name plumbing companies. When we found A-General, it was like a gift. They’re local (Farmingdale) and family-owned, so you’re dealing with really nice, fair people. But they’re also big enough for 24/7 emergency response so you can count on them for literally anything. Every experience with A-General has been A+!!

THE POOL BAR REINCARNATED

If you were born in Monmouth County before the 80’s (or maybe even the early 80’s with a decent fake ID or lifeguard shorts) you may have experienced the glory that was the Pool Bar at the Warren Hotel. A favorite summer spot right across Ocean Ave. from the Spring Lake beachfront, the Pool Bar was iconic. Hard to believe it’s been 24 years since it served it’s final daiquiri as the Warren Hotel was demolished and replaced with mansions.

Fast forward to 2023 and The Shore Club on Route 71 in Spring Lake unveiled it’s own Pool Bar, open to the public and featuring live music, happy hours, and that vacay everyday vibe it’s namesake was famous for. Their menu is the perfect selection of summer fare from ahi tuna tacos, to hot honey chicken wings, to oysters on the half shell. And their crafty cocktails will send you back in time to the old Pool Bar days with everything from a Mermaid Splash, to a Pauhana, to a Miami Vice. ⚾️ SPORTS & FITNESS 🏃‍♂️

The Monmouth County ocean lifeguard tournament season starts this week with it’s first event, the Avon Relays, which will kick off on Tuesday 7/8 at 6pm in front of The Promenade in Avon. Each Monmouth County beach patrol will send their very best watermen and waterwomen to compete against their peers in a varying slate of events that demonstrates not just their fitness and swimming ability, but their proficiency across a range of lifeguard equipment like kayaks, paddleboards, and surf row boats.

The weather all week looks pretty unfavorable but you never know. If you can make it down to any or all of these high intensity competitions, it not only makes for an exciting spectator sport but it may give you a newfound appreciation for the young men and women who whistle at you when you swim outside the green flags.
