🧊 Chill Out Marlboro

Voters in the Marlboro Township Public School District have approved a bond referendum to install air conditioning in the classrooms at Asher Holmes and Robertsville Elementary Schools, according to unofficial 2025 General Election results showing 63.56% in favor. This approval, which is pending certification by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, completes the district-wide goal of providing comfortable, energy-efficient learning environments for all students, as six of the eight schools currently have full air conditioning.

The $5.3 million project is designed to be completed without raising the tax rate, as the voter-approved referendum ensures the district can secure up to $2.1 million in state aid and use funds saved in its capital reserve account to pay off the bond. Following the approval, the district plans to finalize bond financing, prepare construction specifications, and award contracts, with the aim of beginning A/C installation in summer 2026 and finishing by spring 2027.

👮‍♂ New Holmdel Police Chief

Jeffrey Ackerson, a 27-year veteran and lifelong resident of Holmdel, was officially sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Holmdel Township Police Department on Monday during a ceremony at Bell Works, succeeding the retiring Chief Frank Allocco. Mayor Brian Foster administered the Oath of Office to Chief Ackerson, who was joined by his wife, and their two children.

🚦 Crossroads of Monmouth County Project

The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on November 6th for "The Crossroads of Monmouth County," an intersection improvement project located at Route 34 and Route 537, which is designed to beautify and enhance the area. Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone stated that the project, featuring various shrubs, plants, and a central spruce, is a strong example of the county's commitment to open space and natural beauty, an initiative recently reinforced by the passing of the Open Space Grant referendum. The entire effort is being executed in-house, with the landscaping and sign designed by Department of Public Works Senior Landscape Architect Ellias Sarrinikolaou, L.L.A., renderings completed by the Division of Engineering, and the sign constructed by the Monmouth County Park System.

🔥 One Acre Brush Fire at Brookdale

The Middletown Township Fire Department successfully extinguished a one-acre brush fire on the Brookdale Community College campus in Lincroft on Thursday afternoon, with no injuries reported. The blaze, which was confirmed by Second Assistant Chief Jacob Lawrence in a wooded area of the campus, required the response of the Lincroft, River Plaza, and Middletown Township Fire Company No. 1, with the Belford Engine Fire Company redirected from a separate call to assist with water operations. Following the incident, the Fire Department issued a reminder to residents that the area is under an elevated wildfire risk due to high winds and dry conditions, urging vigilance and caution with fire-related activities, such as ensuring campfires are properly extinguished and avoiding improper disposal of smoking materials.

🍷 Salt Creek Grille Closing

The Salt Creek Grille in Rumson, a long-standing Jersey Shore favorite known for its waterfront dining on the Navesink River, has announced it will close permanently on December 31st after 27 years in business. The owners shared the news in a social media post, attributing the closure to the end of their lease and acknowledging the countless memories created by loyal patrons celebrating everything from quiet dinners to major life events. This closing follows the recent decision to shutter their Princeton Forrestal Village location on October 4th, a move they explained was driven by ongoing sustainability challenges faced since COVID-19. Recognized multiple times by NJ.com among the state's best waterfront restaurants, the Rumson establishment used its farewell message to thank its dedicated staff, many of whom have worked there for over two decades, calling them the "soul of Salt Creek," and encouraged guests to visit one last time.
