🌨️ Last Weekend’s Blizzard “Not Quite ‘96”

Last weekend’s Blizzard of ’26 delivered historic winter weather to Monmouth County and much of New Jersey, burying towns like Freehold, Middletown and Colts Neck under more than two feet of snow. With some local totals reaching 26–27 inches as measured by the National Weather Service — it rivaled some of the biggest snowstorms in state history. The powerful nor’easter, which prompted statewide blizzard warnings and a state of emergency, was New Jersey’s most significant snow event in decades, with Newark Liberty Airport recording 27.2 inches, just shy of its record from the Blizzard of 1996 (27.8 inches). While it may not have surpassed every historic benchmark (some older storms like the famed blizzards of 1947 and 1996 still hold iconic status), this late‑February storm ranks among the most intense in recent memory and stands as one of the region’s most impactful winter events in years.
