🏆 2026 Basie Awards

The 21st Annual Basie Awards have officially unveiled their highly anticipated list of nominees, celebrating the remarkable talent and dedication of Monmouth County's high school theatre programs. Announced during the week of April 27, 2026, the list highlights outstanding performances, technical achievements, and ensemble work from schools across the region, ranging from plays like The Book of Will and The Diary of Anne Frank to spectacular musicals like Legally Blonde and Come From Away. Evaluators from the Count Basie Center for the Arts spent the season reviewing dozens of productions, ultimately recognizing exceptional student actors, directors, and crew members who bring these stories to life on local stages.

The culminating ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre inside the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank. In addition to the award presentations in categories like lead and supporting performances, set design, and costume direction, the evening will feature live performances from nominated schools, showcasing the vibrant artistic community in the county. Tickets for the highly anticipated event go on sale to the public in early May, as the community prepares to applaud the creativity, dedication, and hard work of these young thespians and educators. info

🍔 FOOD & 🍹 DRINK

🥙 Naya Middle Eastern Cuisine - Sea Girt (Wall)

The new fast-casual Middle Eastern eatery, Naya, has officially opened its doors at the Brook 35 Plaza in Sea Girt, bringing vibrant, scratch-made Lebanese cuisine to Monmouth County. Founded on a commitment to uncompromising quality and time-honored traditions, the brand allows diners to fully customize their meals with a base of hearty bowls, crisp signature salads, or warm Lebanese-style pita rolls. Guests can choose from slow-roasted chicken shawarma, seasoned kafta lamb kebabs, and a variety of flavorful accompaniments, including falafel, hummus, and spinach fatayer.

We’re big fans of Middle Eastern food, especially Lebanese. And when Mamoun’s closed it’s Wall location back in 2020 the already slim Middle Eastern offerings in Monmouth County got even slimmer. So, Naya is a very welcome addition to our thriving culinary ecosystem. Check them out. info
