Tuesday 8/5 is National Night Out! Many if not most police departments in Monmouth County hold their own events aimed at promoting strong relationships between police and the communities they serve. The events typically have free music, food, games, police demonstrations and more for the whole family. They’re really a lot of fun. And FREE! Check with your local police department for details.

WORKING GOATS 🐐
In Sea Girt, a pilot program has begun using a New York-based goat-grazing service to clear invasive plants along the Sea Girt side of the Wreck Pond Watershed also known as The Terrace. Green Goats Rhinebeck delivered goats to graze on a one-acre section of The Terrace. The program, which is expected to last eight weeks and cost around $8,000, is being funded by the borough with support from the Sea Girt Conservancy. The goats are fenced in, and volunteers will be providing them with fresh water daily. Borough officials remind the public that the goats are there to work and ask residents not to feed or pet them. Once the goats have cleared the overgrowth the conservancy plans to evaluate the area for plans to “enhance terrain for environmental, natural habitat, and stormwater management purposes” according to the boro.

Since day one we’ve made it a point to stay out of politics unless it’s uncontroversial and positive. So when a Monmouth County mayor is handing out free ice cream at 7am on a Wednesday, we hit the pause button on our apolitical ethos.
This Wednesday 8/6 at 6am, all are welcome to join Freehold Township Mayor Maureen Fasano for a one mile walk at Michael J. Tighe Park. Following the walk participants will be treated to ice cream from Weaser’s. Sounds like a win win win. Get your steps in. Have ice cream before breakfast. The Spring Lake Beach Patrol will hold its newly named “War at the Shore” tomorrow 8/4 at 6:30pm in front of the North End Pavilion. For years SLBP has held a friendly intra-squad competition amongst its lifeguards pitting the north end of town against the south. The new format will involve teams of six lifeguards competing in five different events.
