🛰 MAST Students Win Competition

Four students from the Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST) in Highlands recently took home first place at the 2026 East Coast Space Settlement Design Competition for their visionary work in interplanetary engineering. Tasked with the fictional but scientifically grounded mission of mining raw materials on Venus and transporting them to an orbital settlement, the team—comprised of Dolan Dunigan of Middletown, Jason Samuel of Freehold, Noah Eckert of Aberdeen, and Daniel Chiu of Edison—spent a grueling 12-hour "design sprint" developing a comprehensive technical proposal. Their winning strategy addressed complex systems including life-support infrastructure, transportation logistics, and the material science required to survive the planet's crushing atmosphere.

Individual excellence was also a highlight of the competition, as sophomore Daniel Chiu received the prestigious Paul Stenzel STEM Pioneer Award, which recognizes exceptional ingenuity and innovation in design. The competition, held on March 7 at Toms River East High School, is modeled after real-world aerospace industry processes and serves as a qualifying round for the international finals. By successfully integrating physics, economics, and environmental science into a cohesive plan for a future colony, these Monmouth County students have demonstrated that they are well-prepared for the "Golden Age" of space exploration.

🍺 Pints for a Purpose to Support Rescued Horses

Tall Oaks Farm & Brewery in Farmingdale is hosting a "Pints for a Purpose" event this weekend to benefit the Magnolia Equine Sanctuary, a Monmouth County-based all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitating horses and farm animals rescued from neglect and abandonment. During this community-driven gathering, $1 from every beer purchased, along with additional monetary donations collected throughout the weekend, will go directly toward the sanctuary’s rising costs for daily feed, hay, and critical veterinary care. As the sanctuary faces an increase in urgent surrenders, this family-friendly event offers residents a meaningful way to support local animal rescue efforts simply by enjoying a pint. Every contribution helps ensure that the sanctuary’s diverse residents—including horses, goats, pigs, and cows—continue to receive the safe shelter and lifelong care they need to thrive after their stories of survival.

🏎 New Era for Wall Stadium

Wall Stadium Speedway, long known as the "Roar of the Jersey Shore," is speeding into a revitalized era for the 2026 season under the new leadership of co-promoters Pete Maletto and Fred Archer. The historic third-mile, high-banked oval—which first opened in 1950—has officially returned to the NASCAR Local Racing Series for the first time since 2007, a move punctuated by a brand-new "Welcome back NASCAR" sign on Highway 34. Maletto and Archer are spearheading a comprehensive "full reset" of the facility, investing in physical upgrades like fresh paint, a renovated pit area, and a modernized concession stand featuring app-based ordering, all while implementing a "respectful culture and retro vibe" to honor the track's storied past. As a launchpad for racing legends like Martin Truex Jr. and Ray Evernham, the speedway remains a critical thread in the fabric of New Jersey's automotive history, with the 2026 season officially kicking off on April 25 featuring its signature Wall Modified division and the beloved annual Turkey Derby scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend.
