A viral social media trend has taken the Jersey Shore by storm as surf-fishing teams reel in massive apex predators right from local beaches, sparking an intense debate over public safety. The online buzz reached a fever pitch after the angling group East Coast Shredderz hooked, photographed, and released a staggering 12-foot, 700-pound tiger shark off the coast of Manasquan. While the viral footage has captivated millions of viewers on TikTok and Instagram, it has simultaneously drawn sharp scrutiny from coastal officials who worry that the pursuit of social media clout is putting beachgoers at risk.
Local mayors and police departments are increasingly alarmed by the aggressive tactics used to capture these viral moments, particularly the use of drones and kayaks to drop bait and chum deep into the water. Officials argue that deliberately luring large shark species into shallow, heavily populated swimming zones creates an unnecessary hazard for swimmers and surfers alike. While catch-and-release shore fishing remains a popular local pastime, coastal leaders are now pushing for stricter enforcement of wildlife-luring regulations to prevent content creators from attracting apex predators directly to the shoreline.

Want to get that bygone rush of feeling like you just got a lot for your money? That fleeting sense of value? Stop by Lenny’s Colonial Ranch Market in Manasquan and pick up your favorite submarine sangwheech. We grabbed two on Saturday before heading to the Cowtown Rodeo and…WOW!! The combined weight of those subs had to be ten pounds. Just when you thought that master sandwich maker was about to slap on the top half of bread and wrap it up to go, he made another pass with the meat slicer. And then another. The final product was a sub so substantial (and delicious) it made us instant regulars. We’ll be back Lenny’s!
