📰 Eatontown to Receive $47 Million From Netflix

The Eatontown Borough Council is moving forward with a 30-year Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement for the new Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth, with officials focused on minimizing risk for taxpayers and determining how to best utilize the funds.

The council introduced the PILOT ordinance with a 5-0-1 vote on October 8th, which, if approved at the final hearing on October 22nd, would provide the borough with a $47 million upfront payment specifically for infrastructure, as well as significant annual payments over 30 years—totaling over $49.5 million for the borough budget.

Mayor Anthony Talerico Jr. strongly supports the arrangement, noting that it protects taxpayers from potential future budget shortfalls if traditional taxation were used and adding that the upfront funds can be used for various infrastructure projects inside or outside redevelopment areas. The council also intends to discuss sharing annual revenues with the Board of Education.
