Good morning, Monmouth County! Fair Season is officially upon us! St. Mary’s in Middletown is up next with their annual fair that starts tomorrow 6/23 and runs through Saturday 6/28. You have the Wall Twp. Fair which will run from this Thursday 6/26 through Sunday 6/29. What’s better than these good old fashioned local fairs? Reminds us of when we were young and the spinny rides didn’t make us sick. And don’t forget to mark your calendars because the Monmouth County Fair is next month from 7/23-7/27.

A Word on Camps

There are so many options for summer camps throughout Monmouth County we could do a whole newsletter just on that (maybe next year!). Camps can also be a little more localized. We wouldn’t expect someone in Atlantic Highlands to drive their kids to Manasquan everyday or vice versa. So in lieu of an exhaustive list of the staggering number of camp options for the kids this summer, we’ll refer you to some of the hub sources we find helpful. The Monmouth Moms also put out a solid list in 2024 which is a good jumping off point. Your local municipal recreation department may be a good place to check as well.

Also, you may notice some overlap in the sources we’re giving you below. That’s just because these organizations are very much in cooperation and are cross-promoting. We’re probably biased, but the CSI Camp looks pretty fun!

Snapology of Monmouth County | Offers a multitude of workshops and programs at different locations throughout Monmouth County focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math).

Monmouth County Parks | Offers a wide range of camp opportunities from arts and crafts, surfing and skateboarding, golf, nature and science, and A LOT more!

Brookdale Community College | Offers numerous camp options from half-day to full week to on-line. Camp themes include Sports & Chess, Careers & Leadership, Cooking & Art, Film & Music, Teens & E-Sports, and more.

Count Basie Center: Turner Academy of the Arts | Has a lot going on this summer for kids of all ages as well as adults. Instruction in music, tv/film/theater acting, voiceover, audition prep, and even fencing! They host camps and workshops for various disciplines and put on at least five different student productions!

Personally, we’ve had a couple pretty terrible experiences with some of the bigger name plumbing companies. When we found A-General, it was like a gift. They’re local (Farmingdale) and family-owned, so you’re dealing with really nice, fair people. But they’re also big enough for 24/7 emergency response so you can count on them for literally anything. Every experience with A-General has been A+!!

Perkins is coming back!! We thought Perkins was gone for good in Monmouth County. That institution of our childhood when families actually went to breakfast together on Sunday morning only has one remaining Monmouth County location in Hazlet. But the word is that by October we will see Perkins rise from the ashes like a phoenix carrying sausage links. Perkins’ is coming back to Monmouth County with a new “Griddle and Go” concept, starting at Fort Monmouth, and with nine more Monmouth County locations to follow!
