Derby Weekend!
Happy Thursday, Monmouth County! Itās May. Itās Derby Weekend! And weāre not going to let a little rain in the forecast stop us from enjoying it!
The Kentucky Derby, inaugurated in 1875 at Louisvilleās Churchill Downs, holds the distinction of being the longest-running sporting event in the United States. Known as the āRun for the Roses,ā it showcases three-year-old thoroughbreds racing 1.25 miles. Each year on the first Saturday in May, approximately 150,000 spectators gather to witness whatās often called āthe greatest two minutes in sports.ā Beyond the races, the event is renowned for its traditionsāsipping mint juleps, donning extravagant hats, and singing āMy Old Kentucky Home.ā
