☕ Red Bank Gateway Revitalization

Local restaurateur Victor Rallo is transforming a long-vacant gas station property at 187 Riverside Avenue—the prominent gateway into Red Bank just off Coopers Bridge—into Rallo Alimentari & Focacceria, an all-day Italian café and European-style espresso bar. Designed in partnership with Mancini Duffy, the project will feature fresh daily pastries, custom focaccia sandwiches, and an Italian beverage program, breathing vibrant new culinary energy into a high-visibility corner that locals have watched transform.

World’s First Wireless Demo in Highlands

Perched high above the Navesink River, the historic Navesink Twin Lights in Highlands served as the breathtaking backdrop for a quiet telecommunications revolution that permanently changed global history. In the autumn of 1899, visionary Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi chose these majestic stone towers to conduct the very first public demonstration of wireless telegraphy in the United States. Invited by the New York Herald to report on the America's Cup yacht races using his experimental radio-wave technology, Marconi set up his equipment inside the southern tower, transforming a local coastal beacon into the cradle of American wireless communication.

The daring demonstration proved an astonishing success, bridging invisible gaps across the Jersey shore as Morse code signals zipped through the ether from the Twin Lights straight to a temporary receiving station aboard a steamer and a land base at Asbury Park. Spectators and journalists watched in awe as race updates streamed in effortlessly without a single yard of connecting wire, proving that maritime reporting and long-distance communication had entered a brilliant new era. Today, the Twin Lights stand not only as a striking monument to regional heritage, but as the foundational birthplace where the modern wireless world first flickered to life.
