🌊 Coastal Defenses Hold Strong

Monmouth County’s coastal defenses faced their sternest test of the season last week as that doozy of a nor’easter lashed the Jersey Shore with multi-foot tidal surges, high-energy surf, and heavy onshore winds. While water breached streets and bayside lowlands across Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach, regional flood control infrastructure, engineered beach berms, and recently elevated bulkheads and homes effectively prevented catastrophic structural collapses. Although the state’s post-storm engineering surveys logged notable beach scarping and sand displacement along exposed oceanfront stretches, the critical barrier dunes and seawall revetments held their line, turning what could have been a Sandy-level inland disaster into a manageable recovery effort that validates years of continuous municipal and federal resiliency investments.

🏌‍♀️ Holmdel’s Megha Ganne

Holmdel native Megha Ganne has officially cemented her status as one of American golf’s rising stars, capping an extraordinary transition from elite amateur to professional contender. After first capturing national attention as a 17-year-old amateur contender at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open, winning the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and earning four-time All-American honors at Stanford, the Monmouth County standout turned professional and quickly broke through on the Epson Tour by capturing her first career professional victory at the Wildhorse Ladies Golf Classic. Ganne battled through a tense two-hole playoff to secure the title, validating her status as the 2026 Inkster Award recipient and demonstrating the poise, tee-to-green precision, and clutch putting that local fans watched her develop on New Jersey fairways. With her rookie campaign punctuated by silverware and regular LPGA Tour appearances, Ganne continues to carry Monmouth County’s rich athletic tradition onto the sport’s biggest global stages.
